Painfully Hip, Totally Cool

This morning I woke up in a hotel room in fabulous New York City, and tonight, I'm back to my regular old, boring life. Isn't it always such a let-down when something you've looked forward to for so long is over? Most especially when it was a ba-jillion times more incredible than you were ever expecting?

The city is... beautiful. But that's not news to anyone. And I don't have a favorite event, or a favorite sight that I saw. There was no highlight of the trip; no experience that will be the most memorable. For me, every single second of each day was met blissfully with perfection, and each one that passed was even more amazing than the one that came before. I hadn't a care in the world; everything that had troubled me in the moments before I watched that skyline go by from my airplane window vanished in an instant.

I owe it all to my two friends who accompanied me on this extraordinary weekend. The three of us have become close through working and traveling with each other at our envy-worthy jobs. It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know them, and I feel quite fortunate to have them in my life. I took a chance when I asked these two about going on the trip; I wasn't quite sure if they liked me enough to say yes. As it turns out, they're even better friends than I could've ever hoped for.

I think one of the major signs of a good friend is a willingness to be giving to the other. I was taken by surprise by the generosity of these two throughout the course of the weekend. Their main focus and priority was to make sure I had a fantastic birthday, and thanks to them, not only was it the best birthday I've ever had, but quite possibly the best couple of days I've had in years.

I can't possibly express my gratitude to these guys, but I hope knowing how much fun I've had with them not just this weekend but many days before will be enough to say thank you...

What a trio...
